Being a waitress was a great and true gift. Although, I have to admit that I didn’t appreciate it’s meaningfulness at the time. When you are serving people you’re often exposed to their true nature – for better or for worse!
Case in point, for many years I worked at a popular steakhouse. One fine evening during the hustle and bustle, a woman demanded the immediate attention of the “man in charge”. She was fired up and taking NO PRISONERS.
"There's a tooth in my bread!"
It was true. There was a human tooth lodged RIGHT THERE. It sat peeking out from the fluff like some kind of hideous mini-Stonehenge. I'm pretty sure that the "man in charge" was a bit thrown off his game, but he sat there and listened... and listened... and listened. When she sputtered her last sputter and the fury met a momentary lapse he asked,
“Ma’am, could it be that this is your tooth?”
Eyes agog….. a sudden and sick realization sank in. It was her tooth in the bread.
As they say, truth is stranger than fiction and life is a great teacher.
So people, when you run into a difficult situation wait before you start the blame game...
look at yourself first.
After all, it could be YOUR TOOTH IN THE BREAD.
