When I was in the 4th grade my teacher took our class to the cafeteria to watch the space shuttle launch. What we was saw - unexpectedly - was the Challenger explode. This affected the whole world deeply.
For me, it started a long love affair with NASA.
I became obsessed with becoming an astronaut. Picture me super cool with my red hair, freckles, and big plastic glasses. In middle school I didn't have a picture of New Kids on the Block in my locker... it was a space shuttle. Over 7th grade summer I went to Space Camp in Alabama.
I know... super hip, right?
Obviously, I decided to follow a path towards mental health (that's a story in itself), but I never lost my fascination with space and the universe. I would love to sit next to Neil deGrasse Tyson at a dinner party. Although, he might consider me a drooling peanut because I'm no astrophysicist.
Someone asked Neil what he considered astounding. No small question for man like him.
He responded that humans are made of the same stuff as stars.
So here we are, people. Walking around, doing our jobs, living our lives...
Remember this when you're feeling small.
